Music & Sunday Worship

We often invite guest preachers and lecturers to speak in our pulpit, so we may be exposed to a diverse array of voices and perspectives. Every Sunday, a lay person reads the scripture verses, leads responsive readings and prayers, and shares personal stories about why they support Crossroads during the invitation to the offering. Both our worship planning team and our Music Director try their best to adapt and select songs that utilize inclusive language of our Creator God.

Music is an essential part of worship at Church of the Crossroads, and it is one of the best ways to celebrate diversity and explore the beauty of other cultures and traditions. From contemporary a cappella choral arrangements and traditional anthems, to Bach piano preludes and slack key guitar, the musical offerings at Crossroads are delightful and wide-ranging. The congregation often sings hymns in languages from around the world, including Swahili, Japanese, Latin, German, Spanish and, of course, English and Hawaiian.

All are welcome to join our adult church choir, under the direction of Chris Serrano, which rehearses every Wednesday (with summers off). Soloist and music scholarship opportunities are sometimes available throughout the year; since 1980 Crossroads has provided free voice lessons for over 90 scholarship recipients.

Many opportunities for church and community members to share their musical talents are also available throughout the year; gifts of music, song, and dance are especially welcome during the choir’s summer hiatus. Please contact Music Director Chris Serrano for more information. Under the direction of volunteer Joanna Habermann, our keiki music program often includes children and youth singing and playing instruments in worship services, Christmas pageants, and other liturgical celebrations.

Please contact members of our Mission Teams if you would like to get involved in any of our ministries.
