Nurturing The Nurturers Workshop
A Workshop with Lee Sturgeon-Day
Saturday January 14, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m

The work of Lee Sturgeon-Day is based on the insights of Austrian philosopher and social reformer Rudolf Steiner, founder of Waldorf education, Biodynamic Agriculture, and Anthroposophical Medicine. As an adult educator and counselor, Lee offers practical and imaginative resources to help parents and caregivers nurture themselves during the stresses of daily life.

Included is a session on “Picturing” your child. The art of truly beholding our children and working imaginatively with what they are revealing to us is the most potent way of supporting their development and deepening our relationship with them.

Childcare and Refreshments Provided
Workshop - $30.00
Childcare - $5 per child ($10 max. per family)
Sponsor/Location: Church of the Crossroads (1212 University Ave., Honolulu)
To register, please phone Kahlil Apuzen-Ito 554-8114 or email ksaikzen@gmail.com by January 9, latest.

Martin Luther King Jr. Parade & Pre-Parade Teach-in

MLK Pre-Parade begins Monday morning 7:30 am followed by the Parade at 9:00 am, January 16, 2012 from Magic Island to Kapiolani Park.

The Interfaith Alliance Hawai'i will sponsor a pre-Parade "Teach In" at Magic Island. The planners of the 2012 Parade want to make a statement about the economic disparity that is being experienced by too many Americans.

The Occupy Movement has changed and expanded our awareness of the magnitude of this concern and the time is right to express our moral outrage against greed and our support for economic justice. Therefore, a "teach-in" and rally will be held before the parade - as we gather on Magic Island - at 7:45 a.m.

A few statements will be made by community leaders that will clarify the justice work that needs to be done. The parade begins at 9:00 a.m. so, it won't last very long.

Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Peacemaker Award Celebration

Nancy Aleck Named Martin Luther King Peacemaker

The MLK peacemaker award celebration will take place Monday evening 7 pm, January 16, 2012 at
Church of the Crossroads.
Church of the Crossroads is pleased to announce that Nancy Aleck, Executive Director of the Hawaii
People’s Fund, is the Peacemaker awardee this year. The celebration of her work will take place
January 16, 2012, 7PM in a public service at Church of the Crossroads, 1212 University Avenue,
Honolulu.

Nancy, a resident of Hawaii since 1973, has been an advocate for peace and justice since her student days.
Anti-nuclear issues and anti-Vietnam war issues were some that she marched for as a student.

Marches, legislative action, and testimony on peace and justice issues have marked her time in Hawaii.
The American Friends Service Committee provided her a way to channel her energies on
justice political issues. Over the years, Nancy has become an eminent presence in the local peace and
justice community.

In 2003, she came to the Hawaii People’s Fund. A theme of the Fund is “Change, not Charity.” The Fund
supports those organizations considered “too small, too new, or too controversial” for more traditional
funding sources. The Fund supports efforts throughout the state, and has disbursed grants of more than
$425,000.00 to many organizations and projects.

Guest performers appearing with the Crossroads Choir include singer/guitarist Dr. Jon Osorio
(UH/Manoa), and a hula hui of Crossroaders (Ha'aheo Guanson, Elaine Lemons, Linda Rich) and guest
dancers organized by Kumu Dwayne Kanealoha Jeremiah. Join in the celebration and commemoration and
inspiration of this evening!
